Paul Pepper: Scott Christianson, "Guidelines for (Successfully) Using Generative AI"

Views of the News: A strategy to cover Trump's legal troubles
MSNBC’s strategy seems to be paying off, as ratings show viewers are tuning in for its coverage of Donald Trump’s indictments. What’s working, and what’s leading others to turn off Fox News and CNN? Also, coverage of the Republican debate and why Fox News is apologizing for a story it wrote about a fallen Marine. From Missouri School of Journalism professors Amy Simons, Earnest Perry and Kathy Kiely: Views of the News.

Paul Pepper: Dr. Anand Chockalingam and Charmane Ganaway, "A Weight Loss Story"
Truman VA cardiologist DR. ANAND CHOCKALINGAM's philosophy of smiling 20 times "every waking hour" is proving itself to be quite impactful. Just ask CHARMANE GANAWAY. Just a couple of years ago, Charmane weighed nearly 550 lbs. After a close call with heart failure, Charmane began working with Dr. Chockalingam and credits his approach to a change in behavior (i.e. a positive attitude, or "smiling") as the first step to losing nearly 260 lbs. Paul Pepper: Landlocked Opera and MOSY open "The Marriage of Figaro" & Nat'l Diaper Awareness Week
The Landlocked Opera now calls Columbia, Mo. home, and it's pretty good timing because, according to TRENT RASH, it's been awhile since The Missouri Symphony has staged a full-length opera! CHRISTINA RAY says the collaboration between the two couldn't have come at a better time: "we are here to find ways to innovate and collaborate so that we can move this art form into the present." Also, September 18 thru September 24 is National Diaper Awareness Week! First Chance for Children executive director GAY LITTEKEN is here to tell us why this week is so important to families in our community and how you can help: "1 in 2 families struggle to afford diapers for their children." (4:20) August 29, 2023
Paul Pepper: Dr. Philip Batson, DDS, Columbia Healthy Smiles, "Back to School Dental Checklist"
Columbia Healthy Smiles' DR. PHILIP BATSON, DDS, wants to make sure your kiddo(s), no matter the age, are going back to school with a mouth that's clean and healthy. For the younger group, that means making sure there's a balance in the kinds of snacks that they eat on a daily basis; for the older kids, that means maybe...braces? (GASP!) Wisdom teeth removal? (GASP!) August 30, 2023

Paul Pepper: Tim Reinbott, MU's Sanborn Field, "75 Years of Aureomycin"
Among the many feathers in the University of Missouri's proverbial research cap is the ability to say that the very first orally-induced "miracle drug" known as aureomycin was first discovered on Sanborn Field (on the Columbia campus) by botany professor Benjamin Duggar in the mid-1900s. Present day Sanborn Field director TIM REINBOTT gives us a little history lesson on today's show! July 31, 2023
Paul Pepper: Dr. Smrita Dorairajan, Truman Veterans' Hospital, "Medication Compliance"
"Nearly 66% of the U.S. adult population - which is 131 million people - are on chronic prescription medication... but ...only 50% are taking it as prescribed." -- DR. SMRITA DORAIRAJAN, nephrology specialist, Truman Veterans' Hospital, on an issue not often discussed: "medication compliance" July 28, 2023
Paul Pepper: Carisa Kessler, Burrell Behavioral Health, "Missouri 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline"
