In her latest book, presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin looks at four U.S. presidents through the lens of leadership ability.

Segment 1: Renowned historian discusses the influences that made four presidents great leaders.

When it comes down to it, 50 years of presidential scholarship has convinced Doris Kearns Goodwin that great leaders are made, not born. The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of books on former presidents Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, FDR, and Lyndon Johnson talked about the individual trajectories that brought each of them to the national crises they faced as president.

Segment 2, beginning at 25:29: Opioid addiction advocate says "people need to get involved, people need to tell their stories, people need to realize they have a place at the table."

As a recovering addict himself, Ryan Hampton went from shaking a president's hand while in the depths of his own heroin addiction, to being a prominent voice for removing the stigma associated with being an addict. In recovery himself, Hampton now combats that stigma by "showing the face and the voice of recovery" in a project that tells the first-hand stories of those affected by the opioid crisis.
