18 injured in Montgomery County I-70 bus accident

This post will be updated:

Missouri Highway Patrol Troop F spokesperson Sgt. Paul Reinsch says 18 people were injured in a bus that overturned near mile marker 170 in Montgomery County around 1:20pm Friday.

Reinsch says 15 of the injured were students, two were chaperones and one was driving.

Reinsch says it's not yet clear exactly what caused the accident and that all the passengers were transported to University Hospital in Columbia. A spokesperson for University Hospital says at least eight children have been admitted into the emergency room, none with life-threatening injuries.

Reinsch says the bus was carrying students from the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton. A secretary at the school told KBIA the school "had no comment at this time."

The school is operated by Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, whichissued a press release at 5pm today.  Most students are not badly injured, according to the release:

"The accident occurred on I-70 in Montgomery County at the Danville exit. Several students sustained what are believed to be minor injuries and were taken to University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. A majority of the students were being treated and discharged."
