Jason Jarvis spoke with us at a Missouri on Mic event at Paquin Towers in Columbia in March. Yesterday was Mother's Day.So, this week we hear from Lisha Taylor and Leah Freeman, a mother-daughter duo who spoke with the Missouri on Mic team at the Daniel Boone Regional Library in February.As a single mom of five, Lisha believes in always showing her kids love. Together, they discussed the importance of family in their household and about the power of a mother's love.

Shelby Lewis is a recent alum of the University of Missouri. She spoke about her experience growing up with undiagnosed ADHD and her journey to finally getting diagnosed and treated as an adult.

Kate Sandefur: "We wanted to start getting together again with kids, other children, and we felt like the safest place to do it was outside.”
Kate Sandefur spoke with the Missouri on Mic team at the Adair County Public Library in May. She’s a librarian and a former pre-school teacher and spoke about how the pandemic led to her and some other local parents starting Prairie Song Academy, a Kirksville area Montessori-based school.

Selinda LeVoir: "By the time I was five, I knew that I really wanted to be a doctor. And I've just been saying that ever since."
Selinda LeVoir was a 9th grader when she spoke with the Missouri On Mic team at the state fair last August. She recently moved to the state due to her Mom finding her own extended family online through 23andMe—a company that helps connect people to biological relatives using DNA testing.She spoke about her recent move to Missouri, how it’s different from living in the city and a little bit about how she’s settling into her new home.

Nursing Through the Pandemic Has ‘Really Made a Bigger Place Seem Smaller’
Kennedi Barker is a public health nurse for Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services. We spoke a few weeks ago during a mobile outreach vaccine clinic that she was working about how the more than 17 months of the pandemic – and working with Columbians from all walks of life – has impacted her.

Grace & Gaedene Vance: "I feel like the luckiest mom in the world. I had the chance to raise two absolutely fantastic people."
For Gaedene Vance and her daughter Grace, Columbia means a lot. Gaedene was born and raised in El Dorado Springs, and transferred to Columbia in college. Her daughter Grace was born and raised in the city. They spoke with the Missouri on Mic team at this year's True/False Festival held in Stephen's Lake Park about their relationship to the town and each other.

Terry Asplund is a longtime resident of Kansas City, and he spoke with the Missouri on Mic team at the Central Missouri Renaissance Festival in October.He spoke about the history of Kansas City, and about why he hopes younger generations learn that history and keep the city’s legacy alive.

Alcohol & Sleep: ‘If you can reduce your drinking, it will probably help your sleep, also.’
Mary Beth Miller is the lab director and principal investigator for the Health Intervention and Treatment Research Lab, or HIT Lab where she studies the relationship between alcohol and sleep.She spoke about how drinking alcohol can impact the quality of sleep people get each night and how it may even be the reason you are waking up.
