Police Chief Jill Schlude emphasized that the department is trying to hire more officers during a town hall event.

Jill Schlude, an 18-year veteran of the Columbia Police Department, will be sworn in on Dec. 4.

Columbia residents joined a community forum and meet-and-greet hosted by the city to hear from police chief finalists.

The CPRB's has decided to participate in creating a criteria list to narrow down what qualifications that City Manager De'Carlon Seewood should look for when it comes to deciding the next police chief.

Residents have until Friday, Oct. 6 to submit questions for the forum on the city's website. Final police chief candidates will answer them on Wednesday, Oct. 18.

Ferguson has selected a veteran of the Miami police department to be its new police chief.
