Capital Region Medical Center Hosts Open House

The public turned out Monday for the official open house of the newly renovated Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. The $38 million expansion project, which broke ground in February 2014, includes 115,000 square feet of clinical space.

The new clinics have been phasing in since early October, and will continue to do so until mid-December. The project will eventually bring all of the clinics and specialty providers under one roof. The new wing incudes artwork from local artists, and even includes a photograph of the Capital taken by Mayor Carrie Tergin.

“What I really think is neat about this is the amount of local contractors that they used during the construction,” says Tergin.

The biggest piece of art is the butterfly sculpture in front of the main entrance. Tergin says the piece represents the beauty of the life cycle, and that art can be a huge part of healing. Live music by local musicians was also a part of the day’s events.

Patrons of the hospital are pleased with the results of the project and enjoyed tours as part of today’s open house. Jefferson City resident Jane Warren, who suffers from weak bones and joints, says she is a frequent visitor of the hospital.

“This is where I’ve come since I was a little kid,” says Warren. “This means that they’re actually going to be able to get the stuff that’s been scattered all around the city together.”

The renovation was made with the public in mind, and includes more accessible parking and way finding, according to facilities director Martin Grabanski.

“It’s really made for the ease of our customer’s access and use,” says Grabanski. The wing is Wi-Fi friendly, and includes coffee and gift shops, as well as pharmacies.
