New School Board Members | Composting 101

Segment 1, beginning at 01:00: Why Kandace Buckner and Tanesha Ford wanted seats on the Kansas City Public Schools District board and what their goals are for the district.

Buckner and Ford offer their views on charter schools, how well Superintendent Mark Bedell is doing and what barriers are holding the district's students back. Kandace Buckner says she "would love for our district do a better job with improving family engagement. I think our families are a critical voice in the outcomes of our students."


Segment 2, beginning at 28:10: Compost Collective KC and Missouri Organic Recycling offer options for dealing with your food scraps.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, consumer food waste in the United States reached almost 41 million tons in 2017 and that takes up a lot of landfill space. On this Earth Day, composting alternatives for your kitchen and table scraps including a curbside pickup service.
