Paul Pepper: Mayor Barbara Buffaloe, "Building Relationships Overseas"
Big things are on the horizon for Columbia mayor BARBARA BUFFALOE! In October, Barbara will be one of eight mayors from the United States making a trip to China "to build relationships" around climate action and sustainability efforts; and then in December she's off to Dubai on more official business! Views of the News: A Fresh Start for Meet the Press
It’s a new era for NBC’s Meet the Press. How did Kristen Welker do in her debut? Was an interview with Donald Trump the right way to set the tone? Also, the founder of Rolling Stone is axed from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame board, and why Nickelback wants to talk about why everyone hates Nickelback. From Missouri School of Journalism professors Amy Simons, Luke Capizzo and Kathy Kiely: Views of the News.

Paul Pepper: Steve Van Drimmelen, Prairie Chapel Picnic & Les Gray and Brandon Riley, MU Theatre
As many as two dozen tractors will be on display at this year's Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church picnic! Pastor STEVE VAN DRIMMELEN says everyone's invited to come out for free food, fun and fellowship on September 23rd. Also, LES GRAY and BRANDON RILEY are director and co-director/actor, respectively, of MU Theatre's production of 'Thoughts of a Colored Man' by Keenan Scott II. One of the things that makes this show unique, according to Dr. Gray, is its approach to storytelling: "it uses slam poetry and poetic devices along with regular dialog." Curtain goes up tomorrow night! (4:47) September 19, 2023
Paul Pepper: Dr. Smrita Dorairajan, Truman Veterans' Hospital, "New Vitamin D Research"
Truman Veterans' Hospital nephrologist DR. SMRITA DORAIRAJAN has some new information about vitamin D, a.k.a. the sunshine vitamin. For instance, she says, "higher levels of vitamin D are helping prevent certain cancers." So how much sunlight do we need in order to see these 'new' benefits? Find out on today's show! Paul Pepper: CAL's Rocheport Plein Air Event & Columbia and Cross Missouri CROP Hunger Walk
Three dozen artists painting any number of works over a three-day period in one town. That's pretty much the gist of Columbia Art League's annual plein air event happening this weekend in Rocheport. Reception and showcase to follow! Guest: KELSEY HAMMOND | Also, we're less than a week away from the Columbia CROP Hunger Walk! GREG THACKERY tells us everything we need to know, including the monetary goal they hope to reach from this year's event. Joining Greg is DON HARTER. Don is taking the walk one step further (pun intended) by walking across the entire state of Missouri. Find out why! (3:53) September 11, 2023
Views of the News Preview: When should a journalist get involved in a story?
When is it appropriate for a journalist to shift from observer to participant? We’ve seen the likes of Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta jump in when their special skills could help in life-or-death situations, but it is right? Is it journalistically ethical? Or does it not matter when we’re talking about showing our humanity? Also, why a collegiate paper in Florida turned down an advertisement for mail order abortion pills, the latest chapter in Maria Ressa’s fight for freedom, and how Barstool Sports has been skirting copyright laws on viral videos. From the Missouri School of Journalism professors Amy Simons, Earnest Perry and Kathy Kiely: Views of the News.

Views of the News Preview: Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift make news
Travis Kelce apparently has a new biggest fan: Taylor Swift. Her appearance in a GEHA Field skybox alongside his mother Sunday afternoon made headlines nationwide. How did that take over the news cycle? Also, Rupert Murdoch steps down from Fox and News Corp, the WGA reaches a tentative deal and the FCC signals a return to net neutrality. From the Missouri School of Journalism professors Amy Simons, Jared Schroeder and Kathy Kiely: Views of the News.
Paul Pepper: Ken Midkiff, "Global Warming: a Perspective"
Columnist/environmentalist KEN MIDKIFF has been doing some Googling lately. He wanted to know how many of today's meteorologists (who are also "climate scientists") agree that climate change is indeed a thing and is indeed happening. His findings, while slightly varied from poll to poll, show that it's pretty close to being unanimous. So what now? He has some thoughts... September 26, 2023
