Paul Pepper: Dayna Glanz, OsteoStrong, "NOPA Month" & Trent Rash, The MOSY, "Firefly Music Festival"
Did you know that May is National Osteoporosis Prevention and Awareness Month? And did you also know that approximately 50 million people in the U.S. are affected (at some level) by #osteoporosis? Does your lifestyle put you at risk of being a part of this statistic? We ask OsteoStrong Columbia owner DAYNA GLANZ! Also, The Missouri Symphony is rebranding their popular Hot Summer Nights series with a new name this year! Executive director TRENT RASH is here to tell us what we can look forward to at the first-ever Firefly Music Festival. (4:50) May 17, 2023
Paul Pepper: Katie Adkins, The Food Bank, "Volunteering" & Graham McCaulley, "MU-FPA Summer Camp"
"In 2022, we had almost 10,000 people who shared more than 60,000 hours of their time." Despite this staggering statistic, KATIE ADKINS says The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri is always on the lookout for even more volunteers, especially during the summer months! Also, GRAHAM McCAULLEY is looking for high school students to participate in a week-long summer camp that will expose them the many aspects of financial planning. "It sounds boring...but we've built in a lot of fun." Registration closes soon! (4:24) May 19, 2023
Thinking Back: Darwin Hindman and Bike Walk and Wheel Week
On this Thinking Back we hear an interview I think comes from 2007 with Mayor Darwin Hindman and a representative of what was then PedNet, the group now known as Local Motion. We discuss that year's Bike Walk and Wheel Week and some "future" plans for the MKT Trail.

Paul Pepper: Storyteller Larry Brown, "Sacred Sun (a Mother's Day Story)"
Storyteller LARRY BROWN tells us the "fascinating" story of Sacred Sun, an 18-year-old Native American girl from what is now Saline County, Missouri who - along with her husband and a handful of others - found herself on a tour of Europe in the late-1820s led by St. Louis resident David de Launay. He took them there to make money for himself. While overseas, Sacred Sun became pregnant with twin daughters; upon her return she was the subject of a portrait by Charles Bird King. May 12, 2023
Paul Pepper: Dorreen Rardin and Dr. Joe Muscato, Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia, "New Home"
Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia is a free service for someone who needs a little something more in their final 30 days of life: "hospice provides the medical; we provide the home". Take a look inside that new home on today's show. Guests: DORREEN RARDIN and DR. JOE MUSCATO June 2, 2023
Paul Pepper: Dr. Gerry Heisler, PhD, "Overcoming Anger"
Clinical psychologist and author DR. GERRY HEISLER, PhD, pulls back the curtain on what makes people angry, and what they can do to keep it from escalating. At its most basic, Dr. Heisler says controlling one's anger is really just a matter of understanding, acceptance and forgiveness. June 1, 2023
Paul Pepper: Joan Stack, State Historical Society of Missouri, "Oversized Acquisition"
Thomas Hart Benton is making history yet again, this time as the largest statue (we're talking 5,000 lbs) at the Center for Missouri Studies! JOAN STACK, curator or art collections for The State Historical Society of Missouri, tells us the story of its journey from the U.S. Capitol, where it's been since 1899, to right here in Columbia. May 31, 2023
Paul Pepper: John Scalise, Job Point & Kevin Walsh, "Ozark Mountain Music Festival Documentary"
Job Point rehabilitation services director JOHN SCALISE tells us how his department helps those with a disability maintain long-term employment that doesn't affect their SSI or SSDI benefits (Ticket to Work). Also, KEVIN WALSH invites everyone to a special screening of a documentary about the Ozark Mountain Music Festival, a Woodstock-like event that took place in Sedalia in 1974. (4:55) May 30, 2023
Thinking Out Loud: Ozark Music Festival Documentary
