The Division of Fire Safety has released a list of safety recommendations for people to follow as July 4 celebrations start up.

KBIA’s Rebecca Smith recently spoke with Eric Hueste, who runs the Office of Emergency Coordination for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. They spoke about some of the ways the state is working to monitor and protect the health of all soccer fans in Missouri.

Republicans say the new armed guards would improve responses to threats, while Democrats warn more guns won’t make schools safer.

Other parts of the bill include limits on flying drones over open-air stadiums and establishing a crime for gift card fraud.

The council will also hear about constructing a new Fire Station 5 and introduce a one-year data center ban.

The council also approved Love Columbia's lease despite transparency concerns

Federal agencies cannot search Columbia's license plate data for reproductive care or immigration cases, according to Columbia Police Department Assistant Chief Lance Bolinger.

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe met with UM System President Mun Choi this week to discuss crime in Columbia.

The address was part of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce event, The State of the State.

Current mayor Barbara Buffaloe was elected to another term Tuesday night. Her win came after a race focused on public safety and state advocacy.
