Seventy businesses and organizations have co-signed The District's letter asking Columbia leaders to address the city's "urban camping" problem.

The District’s new Block by Block Safety Ambassadors - they're the ones in the bright orange shirts - will provide extra eyes on the streets, deescalate situations, and support bars and businesses. (They'll also check streetlights to help keep downtown safe and well lit!) Executive director Nickie Davis says the program is funded by MU, The District, and the City of Columbia. July 6, 2026

A team of seven will be on duty from 4:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Wednesday through Saturday to help out in the center of the city.

Hitt Records co-owner Kyle Cook thinks of his store as more than just a record store: "it's like the front desk...where any person in the world will walk in to either kill time or ask questions about the town." That person could be you this Saturday during Record Store Day! April 14, 2026
