Randy Cole works at his desk on Monday, March 17, 2025, in Columbia. Cole came to the CHA after serving as the Housing Programs Manager for the City of Columbia since September 2011.

In this month’s “Behind the Issue,” Editor-in-chief Olivia Maillet talks with writer Katie Grawitch and editor Averi Norris about the future of Columbia Housing Authority. In order to get the full picture, they talked to Randy Cole, who is the CEO of the housing authority.

In the Q&A story, Cole explained how the federal funding cuts to housing could potentially affect the housing authority’s resources. Whatever the repercussions, the housing authority plans to continue work on its projects at Kinney Point and Park Avenue.

In the story, Grawitch and Noris dive into terminology and describe what’s next for affordable housing in Columbia.
